I’m just not the hero type
A lot of people are making a fuss that 2012 is over, and Kony 2012 didn’t do anything.
Check again.
The film Kony 2012 got over 109, 644,333 views in the year 2012, raising awareness to millions of people who otherwise wouldn’t have known about the conflict.
Since then:
Politically:
- Kony 2012 resolution was introduced into parliament with 124 bipartisan cosponsors
US pledged $10,000,000 for humanitarian aid towards LRA effected communities
- the UK Parliament conducted LRA inquiries
- the UN came up with a strategy to stop the LRA
- The African Union pledged thousands of troops to arrest Joseph Kony
- The top LRA commander next to Joseph Kony, caesar Achellam, was captured
- European Union pledged support to stopping the LRA
- Obama extended the deplopyment of US advisors to help stop the LRA
- 926 local lobby meetings were held in the United States,
On the ground:
Invisible Children made $12,654,460 of net proceeds that went towards:
- benefitting 9,300 students in Invisible Children’s School for School’s program.
- giving scholarships to 250 university students and 700 secondary students
- benefitting 805 adults who graduted from the adult literacy program
- providing clean water to LRA effected regions
- developing village saving and loans associations that taught 2,850 Ugandans to manage their personal finances
- Finishing and running the Rehabilitation center in DR Congo that allows135 children (average age 12) to recieve psychological treatment at any given time.
- covering 26,801 square miles of high LRA activity with locally-run FM radio coverage that broadcasts messages to LRA groups encouraging child soldiers to escape and giving detailed descriptions of how to do so safely.
- Developing and running early warning networks of high-frequency radios. There have been 12, 543 security calls made that otherwise would not have been able to be made.
Not to mention that Invisible Children organized Move:DC where thousands of people congregated in DC to attend a Global Summit on the LRA with some of the representatives of countries and organizations in the best position to help stop Joseph Kony,
So don’t lose hope. Keep fighting. Stop at nothing.
You’re not always going to be perfect … For me it was more of a religious thing. Going through this phase in my life of … believing what I believe and being thrown to the dogs. To the rock’n’roll world … Because even when I slipped I still believed what I believe.

Street rat (by Bronte Eileen)
“Look, Republicans, I get that you are the “party of limited government”, but we aren’t talking about Obamacare here.. This was two paragraphs giving aid to people in need, and you still couldn’t bring yourselves to vote for it, because of some stupid principle that you yourselves only occasionally live by. And here’s the thing, if you guys can’t vote for this, then we’re f***ed for the next 2 years - and I’m not saying you’re responsible for all the problems facing our country, but you sure are making them harder to fix.”
– Jon Stewart on Hurricane Sandy Relief funding (/could be applied to just about any issue of people in need in America)
